Insecurity: Lawmaker urges recruitment of policemen

Lagos State lawmaker, Abdulbaqi Balogun, on Tuesday called for recruitment of more policemen and other security operatives to tackle Nigeria’s security challenges.

In an interview with NAN, Balogun also urged the Federal Government to adequately equip security agencies for effective operations.

He said that adequate personnel and equipment would enable the police and other security agencies to curb insurgency fast.

The lawmaker said that, although the assistance of the international community was needed, Nigeria should increase enlarge its capacity to tackle terrorism.

“We all thought it was about Maiduguri or Borno affair only, but it gradually spilled over to Yobe and Adamawa,” he noted.

The lawmaker said that it was the primary function of any government to provide security for its people, adding that the Nigerian Government should do its possible best to eliminate insecurity.

He commended the initiative of some states and communities in establishing security outfits in an effort to improve security.
