Lawmaker Promises To Assist Market Fire Victims

The lawmaker representing Oshodi/Isolo Constituency 2 at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Omowunmi Olatunji-Edet, has promised to assist victims of the fire incident that occurred at the Retail Market, Jakande Estate, Isolo area of the state.

Olatunji Edet, who visited the market in company of the head of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Dr. Femi Oke-Osayintolu, and his team, asked the market leader, Mrs. Stella Adebiyi, to get details of the victims and the estimate of the damage over to her office for the support of the government.

She said she got a call about the incident and thus decided to visit the scene, adding that she involved concerned agencies of government for quick intervention.

The lawmaker  confirmed that 20 shops were affected but said the cause of the fire incident was not known. “Whatever we need to do  now is to get the victims back on their feet, we will do so.”

Oke-Osayintolu explained that the fire was curtailed by the state rescue agencies.

He said the state would come to the rescue of the victims and that LASEMA now has market emergency committee which carrys out enlightenment of market people in the state.

He appealed for care in handling electrical appliances in both home and public places.

Earlier, Mrs. Adebiyi had explained that the incident happened late at the weekend .

“When I got here, the fire was raging. I had to call Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan, who also assisted in calling for emergency rescue, she said.”  She pleaded with the government to assist  the victims as most of them depend on the income from their shops to take care of their families
