Nurse Injects Patient To Death

The police at State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, have arrested a suspected fake nurse who injected a man to death in Ifako Ijayi area of Lagos State, western Nigeria.

The 44-year old Mrs Caroline Okoye allegedly injected a 42-year old Ephraim Umeugo with substance suspected to have caused his death.

The incident happened at 144 Pipe Line road, Ifako Ijaiye, Lagos.

The suspect reportedly injected the deceased some drugs substance and he collapsed

He was rushed to hospital for treatment where he eventually died due to complication.

While the late Omeugo was in a hospital, Caroline was charged before Ebutte-Metta Magistrate’s Court with recklessness and negligence under the Criminal Code.

Caroline pleaded not guilty.

She was granted bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety before the information came to the court that the man have died.

His corpse was deposited at a mortuary for autopsy report.

Consequently, the prosecutor, Inspector Odige,  informed the court  about the man’s death.

The earlier charge preferred against her was changed with murder under the criminal code.

Her earlier plea of not guilty and bail  was revoked.

The presiding Magistrate, E. B. Daodu, ordered her to be remanded in prison custody pending the outcome of DPP advice.

The matter was adjourned till 30 June 2014 for autopsy report.
