Ashaka cement spends N151m on community projects

Ashaka Cement Company, a subsidiary of Lafarge International has within years spent N151.3 million on projects in its host communities, it management said on Monday.

The company’s Managing Director, Leornad Palka, told NAN in Gombe that the amount was spent between 2011 to 2013.

Palka said the money was spent on the construction of classrooms, drilling of hand pumps, electrification of some villages and purchase of set of electricity generators for some district heads.

He added that it also purchased ultrasound machines for the General Hospital, Bajoga, among other projects.

The managing director said the gesture was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility.

He noted that the host communities had created conducive working atmosphere for the company, hence the need to perform its corporate social responsibility.

“We must commend the host communities for giving us a conducive working atmosphere,” he said.

Palka also said that the company trained over 200 applicants from the host communities in various skills.
