ASUP President Chibuzo Asomugha

A senior lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, Mr. Sunday Olajide, has warned institutions pulling out of the ongoing strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP.

The Head of Estate Management Department, who spoke with our correspondent in Ado-Ekiti, stated that the schools which were wavering would regret their decision because it would backfire.

According to Mr. Olajide, “when our school’s chapter of ASUP pulled out of the strike, it was not a pleasant affair.
“The school management mocked us, saying that we couldn’t fight a good cause with other members of the Union despite the fact that we all agreed to stay at home”.

Olajide said: ” How do they return to the national body of the union after violating their joint agreement?”
The national chairman of ASUP, Chibuzo Asomugha, said the schools pulling out were not at fault but would have preferred if they all stood as one.

He told P.M. NEWS Campus Square that, “our unity is in agreeing and sticking to that agreement. If people are not ready to stay by our agreements, it could be counter-productive .

“However, we hope to resolve the crisis very soon so that everybody will return to their normal activities”.
The striking lecturers have stayed over eight months at home in protest of Federal Government’s negligence of the polytechnics.
