The Socialist Party of Nigeria (SPN), has submitted its application for registration at the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, office in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

According to Segun Sango, National Chairman of SPN, and Chinedu Bosah, National Secretary, the SPN had earlier received a letter from INEC requesting the proposed party to furnish it with some vital information that will facilitate its registration.

“In full compliance with the request made by INEC in the aforementioned letter, the Socialist Party of Nigeria (SPN) submitted various documents to INEC on Thursday, 12 June 2014,” the party stated.

Among the documents submitted to INEC are copies of the Tenancy Agreement of the headquarters of the Socialist Party of Nigeria at No 42, Adetokunbo Ademola Street, Wuse II, Abuja; copies of the Constitution of the party; copies of the manifesto of the party; and copies of the official receipt issued to the party by INEC after payment of N1million application/processing fee.

Other were copies of the affidavit by the National Chairperson and the National Secretary of the Socialist Party of Nigeria in support of the claims in form PA1; 50 copies of the logo of the party affixed to the copies of Form PA1; copies of the flag of the party; copies of Forms PA1 duly filled and signed by 27 members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party across 24 states plus Abuja.

Sango and Bosah said the application was received on behalf of INEC by Mr. P.A. Enuke, AD/PR.

“We call on workers, youths, students and the generality of the poor Nigerians that have been economically and politically shortchanged by all the capitalist ruling parties and the Nigerian ruling elite to join and help to build this party that can provide a formidable platform that can deepen the struggle for better living conditions of Nigerians and to contest and challenge all the capitalist parties come 2015 general elections and thereafter,” they said.
