Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has called on the security agents deployed to the state to be scrupulously professional in the discharge of their election duties.

Governor Fayemi who made this call today in a state broadcast urged all the residents to remain vigilant and accord the security agents and other relevant authorities full cooperation stressing, “The price of liberty is eternal vigilance.”

The governor however expressed concern about the ignoble role that some security agents played in the harassment meted out to serving Governors in the state yesterday, when their right to freedom of movement as enshrined in the nation’s constitution was violated without an infraction of any known law of the land.

The governor hoped that the unfortunate incident was not a reflection of collusion between security agencies and partisan interests in preparation for compromising the integrity of Saturday’s elections.

“Freeness, fairness and credibility of the elections are the inimitable conditions for acceptance of the outcome by the honourable people of this state. This election presents us with the greatest opportunity in our history to deepen democracy and the culture of freedom in our state. Having had the opportunity to listen to the candidates since March 23, 2014 when the ban on political activities was lifted, all of us should by now know who our choice is.

“I therefore call on all eligible voters to come out to perform their civic duty and exercise your right to choose their leadership. You are enjoined to comply with the rules and regulations governing conduct on Election Day. Accreditation will begin by 8.00am and voting proper will commence by 12.30pm and would continue till the last accredited voter on the queue has voted. Only those with valid voters’ cards are eligible to vote, he said.
