Jonathan leaves for Malabo to attend AU summit

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan left Abuja this afternoon for Malabo, Equatorial Guinea to participate in the 23rd Ordinary Session of the African Union’s Summit of Heads of State and Government.

He is expected back to Abuja on Friday.

Discussions at the summit will focus on the evolution and implementation of fresh strategies and measures to improve agricultural production and food security in the continent, according to a statement issued by Reuben Abati, the president’s adviser.

President Jonathan and other African leaders participating in the Summit will also deliberate on the appointment of Judges of the African Court of Justice, the African Human Rights Court of Justice and the appointment of the President and Vice President of the Pan-African University.

The African Heads of State and Government will also consider and adopt the decisions and recommendations of the 25th Regular Session of the African Union’s Executive Board and the Declarations of the 23rd Ordinary Session of the Conference of the Union.

President Jonathan was accompanied by his wife , Dame Patience, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Aminu Wali, the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina , the Minister of Industries, Trade and Investment, Dr. Olusegun Aganga, the Minister of Water Resources, Mrs. Sarah Ochekpe and the Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu.
