Stephen Keshi has announced that he is stepping down as coach of the Super Eagles following his side’s 2-0 ouster to France in the Round 16 of the World Cup in Brazil.
A brilliant Nigerian side were defeated by France in Brasilia after a superb display. The Super Eagles pushed France hard in their second round match but were undone by Paul Pogba’s late header and a last-minute own goal by Joseph Yobo.
Keshi who led to team to African Nations Cup glory in 2013 said he needed a fresh challenge. “It’s time for me to go back to my family and face fresh challenges,” he was quoted by Dailymail.
In 2013, Keshi resigned as coach of Nigeria, a day after winning last year’s African Nations Cup, but was persuaded to take the lads to the World Cup.
Keshi has been linked with the vacant South African job.
