2 Men Face Trial For Throwing Rival Into Well

The police at State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, have arraigned two suspects over the murder of a 28-year old man, Ikechukwu Amanabu, in a hotel at Owode, Ajegunle, Lagos State, western Nigeria.
The two suspects are Segun Abbey, 20, and Obinna Ezeanuna, 20.
Fighting broke out between the suspects and Amanabu recently over a woman during which the suspects allegedly attacked and pushed Amanabu into a well at the popular hotel at Owode, Ajegunle. The victim drowned before he could be rescued.
P.M.NEWS learnt that an attempt by the suspects to escape was frustrated by the hotel’s management who arrested and handed them over to the police.
The police alleged that the suspects willfully murdered Amanabu by pushing him into the well.
After preliminary investigation, the matter was transferred to the Homicide Department at SCID.
The suspects are facing charges of conspiracy and murder before Ebute Metta Magistrate’s court for the alleged offence under section 221 of the Criminal Code.
The presiding Magistrate, Mr E.O. Ogunkanmi, ordered them to be remanded in prison custody at Ikoyi, Lagos after their plea was not taken.
The court also ordered that the prosecutor should send their file to DPP for advice.
The matter was adjourned till 9 July, 2014.
