Dr. Victor Abimbola Olaiya, OON, and doyen of highlife music in Nigeria, has appealed to corporate organisations, private individuals and other music companies to support and encourage highlife music practitioners just as they do to others, so that the music genre will not die.

Olaiya said even though as one of Africa’s most respected and notable musicians, he has always thrown his weight behind the struggle to see that highlife music regains its past glory by encouraging the young ones, yet he feels his efforts and those of some few others alone are not enough.

According to him, the sacrifice will not be too much if the various multinational organizations in Nigeria, as part of their corporate social responsibilities, can sponsor highlife music shows periodically as a way of encouraging the younger ones.

Meanwhile, highlife music enthusiasts and other fun seekers will have a feel of an evening of fun and good music as the highlife music maestro, alongside the All Stars International Orchestra, stage the July edition of the monthly live performance on Sunday, 6 July.

Tagged “An Evening With Victor Olaiya,” the show will be staged at the popular Stadium Hotel, located along Iyun Road in Surulere, Lagos.
