Fresh facts have emerged on why Tolani Ajayi, a 300 Level undergraduate, allegedly stabbed his father, Mr. Charles Ajayi, a lawyer, to death at the weekend.
According to sources, Tolani, the 21-year old student of the Redeemers University, was a member of a cult group who had been wayward prior to the murder of his father.
The alleged murderer, P.M.NEWS gathered, reportedly killed his father, who was a pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, for chastising him when he refused to say ‘Amen’ when the pastor was praying in their house at the Redemption Camp on the Lagos-Ibadan expresway.
“I don’t believe in your God,” the young Ajayi was reported to have said when he was asked to say ‘Amen’ to the late dad’s prayers.
“The father slapped Tolani in anger, and the lad subsequently picked up a knife and stabbed his father to death,” the source further disclosed.
The youngster reportedly put his father’s corpse in a box and dragged it to a bush within the Redemption Camp.
The student in the Department of History and International Relations, who later confessed to have committed the act, was arrested by policemen from the Ogun State Police Command at his father’s residence on Canaanland Street inside the Redemption Camp.
Confirming the arrest of the suspect, the State Police Command in a statement signed by its spokesperson, DSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, noted that the strange attitude of the young man while dumping the box, led to his arrest.
“The police team traced the ground marks of the dragged box from where the suspect dumped the dad’s corpse to the house of the lawyer, where they met the suspect in a relaxed mood in the house.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect earlier lied that his dad had gone on evangelism before he eventually confessed to the crime when he was taken to the Redemption Camp Divisional Headquarters. He stated further that the problem arose when his late father confronted him for not responding to all the prayer points he (the deceased) was calling and the late father slapped him.”
Adejobi said Tolani went mad and went straight to the kitchen to pick up a knife to stab him and later a cutlass to cut his throat and killed him.
Until his death, the 60-year old legal practitioner was the Abuja Regional Coordinator of the Redeemed Bible College.
He started the Bible College at Victory Parish, Iju Road, Lagos, before he relocated to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, where his wife is working. His remains have since been deposited at a morgue in Sagamu area of the state.
