The body of a manager of a commercial bank, Mr Habeeb Olatunde, 44, who was declared missing since last month, has been recovered.

Police detectives attached to Ibafo Divisional Headquarters in Ogun State, western Nigeria, led by the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, CSP Salawu Jimoh, discovered the body of the bank manager, a native of Kwara State, northcentral Nigeria.

He was declared missing since 18 June, 2014. He was found in an uncompleted building at Arepo town, near Ibafo at about 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.

The decomposing body was found hanging in the building when the police detectives arrived at the scene. Preliminary investigation revealed that the top bank official may have committed suicide.

A statement Monday morning, signed by the State Police Command spokesman, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, said the Police Command had declared him missing and had intensified efforts to find him before his body was discovered after a thorough search with the help of members of the community.

“While investigation was on, it was revealed that the deceased actually complained of stress in the office and was permitted to have a rest. He committed suicide while he was on casual leave.

“His corpse has been released to his family for burial according to Islamic rite as no mark of violence was seen on the body and no foul play suspected,” the statement reads in part.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikemefuna Okoye, praised members of the community for their support and cooperation towards achieving adequate security of life and property in Arepo town and Ogun State as a whole.

Okoye also commiserated with the family of the deceased, members of his community and his colleagues in office for the loss.

He prayed that God will grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.
