Human rights lawyer, Bamidele Aturu, who died last week, will be buried today at Ogbagi, his birth place in Akoko, Ondo State, western Nigeria.

His funeral rites began Tuesday with a day of tributes at the Abibat Mogaji Millennium Secondary School Playground, Agege, Lagos, at 1p.m.

Human rights activists, lawyers, jurists, labour leaders, members of civil society organiations and a host of others on Tuesday, paid glowing tributes to the late activist and lawyer, at a special colloquium organised in his honour.

The colloquium with the theme “Struggle for Social Change in Nigeria” was held at the Abibatu Mogaji Model Secondary School, Dopemu, Agege, Lagos, southwest Nigeria.

On Wednesday, there was a service of songs by the Redeemed Christian Church of God at the Abibat Mogaji Millennium Secondary School Playground, Agege at 5pm. It was followed by candle light procession/solidarity night at the same venue.

The Nigeria Bar Association Ikeja Branch also held a valedictory session for him on Thursday at the NBA Secretariat, Lagos High Court premises. On the same day, there was a commendation service by the Redeemed Christian Church of God at 5, Abebi Close, off Olatunji Street, off Ogudu Road, Ojota, Lagos.

 A funeral service by the Redeemed Christian Church of God at 10am would precede his interment at Ogbagi on Friday.

 Aturu died at the age 49 after a brief illness. He is survived by wife, Adebimpe, children, aged parents, siblings and seven other relations.
