Boko Haram suspect, self-styled “Chief Butcher” Mohammed Zakari says he slaughters his victims in two minutes. Zakari was arrested by the Nigeria Police Force during a raid on Balmo forest in Bauchi.

The suspect was shown to some newsmen in one of the police facilities in the FCT on Wednesday by the force spokesman, ACP Frank Mba.

Zakari told journalists that he joined the sect in 2012, and belonged to a five-man gang of the sect, who specialised in “slaughtering human beings”.

The suspect, who spoke through an interpreter, named four members of his slaughtering team as “Hassan, Garba, Mohammed and Isa” all now at large.

“My real name is Mohammed Zakari, I am also known as Hardu. I am 30 years old, I hail from Bauchi.

“My duty is to slaughter human beings; the duty of the others is to tie the victims whenever we get one.

“I have slaughtered five persons, it takes me only two minute to slaughter a victim after being tied by other members of the gang,” the suspect said.

It would be recalled that Zakari, described by the police as “high profile member” of the sect, was arrested on 12 July, while he was fleeing the forest.

The police alleged that he participated in the slaughter of seven people, including women and children.

The suspect was presented to the press following rumour that he had escaped. “For the past few days, there has been very strong rumour that the suspect, Zakari had escaped from custody,” Mba said.

“It is primarily in response to that (rumour of escape) that we have decided to bring the suspect out to interact with you (newsmen).

“This is in the best culture of transparency of policing operations; you have seen him for yourselves.

“There is no gainsaying now that the suspect who has been alleged to have escaped is in our facility,” Mba said.
