Police arraign mason for assaulting hair dresser

The police on Monday arraigned a mason, Mohammed Ibrahim, 22, in a Grade 1 Area Court, Karu, Abuja, for attacking a hair dresser.

The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Silas Nanpan, told the court that Ms Idayat Bakare of Karshi, FCT, reported the accused and two others, now at large at the Nyanya Police Station on 8 August.

Nanpan said Bakare reported that the accused and his accomplices ambushed her while on way home from her shop located in Nyanya.

He said the accused beat, tore her dress and stole a purse containing two cellphones and N46,000 from the complainant.

He said the accused was arrested while trying to flee the scene of crime. The accused is facing a joint act, criminal force, assault, and theft contrary to sections 79, 265 and 287 of the Penal code.

The presiding officer, Malam Hassan Ishaq, however granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with a reliable surety in like sum.

He ordered that the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and adjourned the case until 20 October, for hearing.
