We’re Taking Care Of Ebola-Related Cases – Fashola

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State

The governor also emphasized that the media should be cautious, explaining that as they publish the details, the number on the watch list, it should be noted, are not sick people so as not to cause panic among the people.

“They are people who indirectly may have had contact with people who have had direct contact and therefore if we don’t keep an eye on them, we won’t catch them early should they fall sick, if we catch them early, the experts have told us that this is not an automatic death sentence. That people can recover and we are seeing recovery signs, so it is important that this is put in all of its context”.

Also speaking at a meeting he held with members of Community Development Committees (CDC) and Community Development Associations (CDA) in the State at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa, the Governor reiterated that the Ebola Virus Disease is not a death sentence.

He charged the people to improve their personal hygiene level and ensure that they wash their hands with water and soap always and avoid eating bush meat or animals like bats which have been proved to be a natural habitat of the Ebola Virus Disease.

He reassured the people not to panic, maintaining that the Ebola Virus is not airborne and can only infect people who come into contact with the body fluid of someone who has fallen ill from the disease.
He urged the people to refrain from spreading unconfirmed tales about the Ebola Virus, adding that the Government has also provided a helpline which people could access to pass on information on suspected cases of Ebola victims if they see anyone.

He added that when suspected cases of people showing symptoms are observed such should be reported immediately to the nearest Primary Health Care Centre in case contacts could not be made with the Ebola helplines, adding that health authorities will come and ascertain such cases to know the status.

The Governor also charged the heads of the CDCs to work with Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in the various areas to handle reported cases of Police harassment of commercial motorcycle riders on approved internal routes.

He added that if after interfacing with the various Divisional Police Officers for such formation, the issue cannot be resolved, the State Government may wade into the matter on what the next line of action would be.
Improvement of personal hygiene also formed the major component of the message of the Governor when he addressed worshipers at the Jumat service of the Secretariat Central Mosque, Alausa.
