Delta 2015: Obuh denies sponsorship by Uduaghan

By Orusi Kenneth

Tony Obuh

A governorship hopeful in Delta State, Tony Obuh has debunked the widely spread allegation making the rounds that he was been sponsored by the incumbent governor of the state, Emmanuel Uduaghan.

Obuh who spoke with journalists Saturday at the Palace of the Asagba of Asaba, Obi (Prof.) Chike Endozien during the conferment of Akinowa chieftaincy title on Chief Cairo Odjougboh, said no individual was sponsoring him to contest for the governorship seat.

“I do not have a particular individual sponsoring me to contest and as a man who have come of age, I mean at 58 and having done 33 years in the public service reaching the office of a Permanent Secretary, I think I should be able to discern and know what is right for me and for my people,” he said.

While responding to a question put across to him by P.M. NEWS on allegations that he was reaping where he did not sow. He responded that it is sad for people to say that after having served the government for 33 years. “If I have not sown, that means I would have been wasting everyday of that 33 years. Even in the political arena, I have sown,” he stated.

Obuh stated that he had funded a political pressure group under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), noting that, “being a civil servant does not mean I have been sleeping idly in the office”.

He disclosed that if given the opportunity to govern the state, the welfare of the people would be his priority. “We will make the people of the state know that they have an interest and a stake in government because our government will serve them and they too will be willing to work with government.

Speaking on his visit to Chief Edwin Clark at his country home in Kiagbodo, Obuh said he was there to consult with the elder statesman to solicit for his support, saying that from his observation, Clark has given him the go ahead to contest the election come 2015.
