Ex-SSG joins Anambra central senatorial race

Ebenezer Alabi, a former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, dump party over alleged extortion

Ossy Ezenwa, former Secretary to the Anambra Government, has declared his intention to contest for the Anambra Central Senatorial seat in the 2015 general elections.

Ezenwa made his intention known during a consultation meeting with his constituents on Saturday in Abagana, Njikoka Council area of Anambra.

He said that he would contest the election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Ezenwa, a former Chairman of Njikoka Local Government Area of the state, told the stakeholders that his decision to join the race was a collective one from the constituents.

He expressed the belief that the odds favoured him in spite of the presence of other heavyweights in the race.

Ezenwa said that his entry into the race brought the number of people jostling the position in the zone on the platform of PDP to about seven.

They include Mrs Christy Okoye, Sen. Annie Okonkwo, Dr Obiorah Okonkwo, Mr Sylvester Okonkwo, Mrs Uche Ekwunife and Mr Kodilichukwu Okelekwe.

He promised not to underate anyone, adding that “I see the forthcoming race to be a straight fight with the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh”.

Ezenwa said he had garnered a rich political and administrative experience beginning with his appointment as Special Assistant to late Gov. Christian Onoh in 1983 and as SSG under Mbadinuju.

“I felt the need to serve my people at the National Assembly,” he said.

He decried the high rate of unemployment in the state, adding that, it appeared not to have bothered others.

He said that if elected into the Senate, he would pursue the issue of unemployment in the zone and the need for politicians to play the game by the rules.

He, therefore, called for a level playing field for all aspirants, insisting that he was not desperate in spite of his zeal to serve the people.

“I am not desperate and I will willingly support anyone who defeats me at the primary,” Ezenwa said.
