A 54-year old suspected cultist, Abiola Tailor, who allegedly threatened a policewoman’s life, was on Friday docked at an Osogbo Magistrates’ Court.
Tailor is facing trial over alleged attack on a policewoman, Mrs Rebecca Yahaya, with other suspected cultists.
NAN reports that Yahaya is the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) in another court case involving Tailor.
The prosecutor, Insp. Isiaka Ajadi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on 4 September at about 9:30.a.m. at Jimate Hotel, Osogbo, Osun capital.
Ajadi said: “The accused threatened the life of Mrs Rebecca Yahaya, a police officer attached to the Osun Police Command for arresting him in a case before the court.
“The accused had initially been arrested by Yahaya over non-payment of his hotel bills for three days. The accused was charged to court and Yahaya is the IPO in the case.
“After the accused was granted bail, he organised his cult members from Ilorin to attack Yahaya.”
According to him, the offence contravenes Section 86 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2003.
Counsel to the accused, Mrs Nnena Ugwu, urged the court to grant him bail on liberal terms.
Ruling on the bail application of the accused, the Magistrate, Mr Olusola Aluko, granted him bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Aluko said the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and also show evidence of tax payment as part of the bail conditions.
The case was adjourned till 14 September for mention.
