Masari advises INEC on credible elections

Former Speaker, House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Masari, on Monday advised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to evolve acceptable methods of ensuring conduct of credible elections in the country.

Masari gave the advice in an interview with NAN in Sokoto on Monday. He urged the commission to enhance its preparations for 2015 general elections, to meet the expectation and yearning of Nigerians.

Masari urged Nigerians to cooperate with INEC to ensure free, fair, credible and acceptable general elections in national interest.

He said that the recent governorship and senatorial by-elections in Ekiti State, Osun and Niger respectively were clear indications that INEC needed to do more in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities.

On security, the former speaker called on the Federal Government to introduce stringent security measures to guarantee peaceful co-existence in the country.

He said that Nigerians must leave in peace with one another, irrespective of religious, tribal and political differences.

Masari said the current insecurity in some parts of the country posed a great threat to the continued existence of the country.
