Nigeria’s acting Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba, on Monday ordered a thorough investigation into the murder of Dimgba Igwe, the Vice Chairman of The Sun Newspapers.

He condoled with the immediate family of the deceased journalist, The Sun Newspapers and the entire nation on the death of Dimgba, who he described as an “irrepressible, versatile and courageous journalist of note.”

The late Dimgba , a founding member of The Sun Newspapers, died on Saturday, 6 September at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, allegedly following injuries suffered from a hit-and-run vehicle at the Okota area Lagos State.

He was hit by the vehicle while he was jogging in the morning of that day.

While recalling the many worthy contributions of the late journalist to nation building, the IGP expressed deep regrets over the death of the journalist.

He noted that Dimgba’s death is regrettably coming at a time when his highly cerebral ideas and ingenuity are very much needed in the country.

He declared, in a statement signed by Emmanuel Ojukwu, Force Public Relations Officer, that the police would embark on a thorough investigation to unearth the circumstances of his death.
