Delta poly student, 4 others arrested for gang-raping student

Five persons have been arrested and detained by the Delta State Police Command for allegedly gang-raping one Favour Orji, a student of Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro.

A press statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Celestina Kalu, gave the names of the suspects as Ekperierie Weomazino, Awolowo Abel, Chukwuka Godspower, Wilson Odili and Ojumah Kelvin.

According to the statement, in the afternoon of 30 August, 2014, one of the suspects, Ekperierie Weomazino, also a student of the Polytechnic, allegedly invited her to escort him to Owhelegbo junction in the town to collect his handset.

The victim added that on reaching the junction, the said Ekperierie Weomazino and the four others raped her and thereafter photographed her while she was naked.

Upon receiving the complains of the victim on 4 September, operatives of the Division swung into action and arrested the suspects.

DSP Kalu who disclosed that investigation into the matter was in progress, added that the suspects would face the full wrath of the law.

In another development, an armed robbery suspect has been shot dead at Jugbale market, Ovwian-Warri by policemen attached to the Ovwian-Aladja Division.

The incident occurred at about 9:30 a.m. on 8 September, when mobile policemen on duty behind the market, heard gun shots around the market and mobilized to the scene where five armed men were operating.

Upon sighting the policemen, the hoodlums allegedly opened fire on them, and in the ensuing gun duel, one of the unidentified hoodlums was gunned down while others escaped with bullet wounds.

Items recovered from the deceased armed robbery suspect include a locally made cut-to-size gun and one live cartridge.‎

Delta State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Celestina Kalu, who confirmed the incident in a press statement, said investigation is in progress while efforts are on to arrest the fleeing suspects.
