The injured son of former President Olusegun Obasanjo has been treated and discharged from hospital over security concerns.

Lt. Col. Adeboye Obasanjo, who was shot by Boko Haram militants during combat in Bazza, northern Adamawa State on Monday, reported to the military authorities in Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal  Capital Territory, after he was discharged.

Our correspondent gathered from a top military source that security concerns contributed to his early discharge from the hospital, disclosing that a military top brass suggested that he should be discharged.

The Information Officer of Federal Medical Centre in Yola, northern Adamawa state, Malam Adamu Dodo, also confirmed the information, stressing that both his speedy recovery and the security factor contributed to his early release.

“There is the issue of his safety given the attention the story has been getting. The case has been receiving huge public attention and high profile personalities have been visiting him,” Adamu was quoted to have said.

Our correspondent gathered that the military authorities had flown him to Abuja, adding that they had concluded plans to fly him out of the country, but his father, former President  Obasanjo, insisted that he should be taken back to the hospital, where other wounded soldiers were being treated.

A member of Obasanjo’s family, who just came back from Abuja where he went to see Adeboye, confirmed to our correspondent that the young Obasanjo is looking better than before, adding that he is seriously pressing to be returned to Adamawa to continue with the fight against the insurgents..

The family source revealed that the whole family was happy and eager to see Adeboye because he has made them proud.

“Ade has made the family great again. His father is a pride to us. He too has recorded a great mark and I think it will be on record that another Obasanjo is among those that fought the dreaded Boko Haram in this country. If not for God and his bravery, he would have died by now. We thank God and we will forever be grateful to Him.

“I heard that he is pleading that he should be allowed to return to the place.  I don’t know what to say about that, but I think he is more concerned about the safety of many Nigerians, that is the reason, he is making this sacrifice,” the family source said.

As at the time of filing this report, the family members were awaiting the arrival of the former Head of State from Singapore where he is on official assignment.
