Operatives of the Interpol section of the Nigeria Police, Force CID Annex, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos, western Nigeria, have arrested a Togolese, Brouno Amoussou, 33, for allegedly conspiring with Senator Chris Anyanwu’ steward to steal her N10 million, jewellery and land title documents.
It was alleged that Amoussou conspired with Alex Medard Sossou, the steward who was working with Senator Anyanwu, to steal the valuables.
After investigation, the suspect was charged before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, sitting in Lagos on a two-count charge of conspiracy to wit, stealing
The police prosecutor, DSP Raymond Odion Akhaine, told the court that the accused and Sossou, who is now at large, committed the offence recently.
Akhaine said Senator Anyanwu left her steward at home on trust, but before she came back, Sossou had conspired with the accused to ransack her rooms and steal her money, jewellery and land title documents.
He said the two suspects immediately fled after the alleged theft but Amoussou was later arrested.
Akhaine said the offences the accused committed are punishable under Sections 409 and 205 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011
When arraigned, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges in the open court.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Olanipekun, admitted him on bail in the sum of N1million with two sureties in like sum, who must have evidence of three years tax payment to the Lagos State government.
Justice Olanipekun adjourned the matter till 13 October, 2014 for mention, while the defendant was taken to Ikoyi Prison in Lagos, pending when he will fulfil the bail conditions.
