NSCDC arrests electricity vandal in Ogun

Bashiru Remilekun Adekunle, 30, is currently in custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Ogun State Command over alleged vandalism of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, (IBEDC) assets located on Agbo-Eran, Sabo, Abeokuta, Ogun state capital.

The suspect was arrested following surveillance of the community in conjunction with the officers and men of NSCDC.

Our correspondent reliably gathered that the IBEDC transformer had been previously vandalized over two times by the suspect and his accomplices who are currently at large.

However, nemesis caught up with the suspect, when the residents of the community, spotted him among the three men suspected to have carried out the illegal act very early on Wednesday morning around 3:55 a.m.

In a release Thursday and signed by the Deputy Public Relations Officer, Inspector Taofeek Adebisi Ogunkunle said: “a resident had over the night spotted three men moving around the transformer suspiciously, he choose not to attempt arresting them for fear of being over-powered. He however spotted Bashiru and one other who is currently at large.

“Bashiru was subsequently apprehended by the residents of the area and was immediately handed over to NSCDC officials in-charge of critical infrastructure protection, who were on patrol”, the statement read.

Some of the items recovered from the suspects include a six round pistol and about 250meter of IBEDC cable insulator.

While confirming the incident, Commandant of the Corps, Commandant Aboluwoye Akinwande said the arrest of Bashiru will serve as deterrent to many unscrupulous elements in the society.

The State Commandant, who spoke through the Deputy spokesman of the Corps appreciated the efforts of the residents of the area, especially the local security outfit, OPC in ensuring community security in the area.

Aboluwaye further stressed that the case is currently being investigated and the suspect will be charged to court accordingly.

He however urged the public not to relent in giving timely and useful information to the Command.
