President Jonathan And Suspicious Sympathies
I was informed via the social media that President Goodluck Jonathan visited Synagogue church today to commiserate with the church leadership over the collapse of its illegally constructed guest house which claimed over 80 innocent lives and injured several others and I marveled at this visit.
My surprise is not because I am not sympathetic over the unfortunate accident or am going to unwittingly criticize Mr. President for this humane act, but rather what I find funny is that once again, am suspicious of this visit in view of the antecedents of Mr. President whose only agenda in government seems to be the furtherance of his personal 2015 ambition and the lack of concern of the well being of the society at large.
Or how can one explain Mr. President’s refusal till date to visit Chibok to commiserate with the families of the girls and the futile attempt by his administration to consign the abduction of over 200 girls to the dustbin of history? How about the feelings and psyche of the families of over 20 missing police officers in the aftermath of the Boko Haram sect overrunning the mobile police training camp in Gwoza and inflicting maximum damage? I could go on and on listing some other cases but for space and time. Are these people and their families not qualified to be consoled and offered succour by the father of the country?
Is Mr. President not once again trying to play up the religion game just to whip up sentiments like he has always done? As the father of the country, is it proper and right for Mr. President to play selective considerations to accidents that affects his citizens within the country?
I think it’s high time Nigerians started to see Mr. President for who he is as someone whose only preoccupation is all about using sentiments to curry undeserved favour and score cheap political points ahead of the 2015 general elections.
A word is enough for the wise!
