Delta Police rescue 7 kidnap victims, arrest 58

Over 58 suspects have been arrested by the Delta State Police Command for various offences across the state in the last two months.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Celestina Kalu, who disclosed this Monday at the Command’s headquarters in Asaba, said some of them were arrested for alleged armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism and other social vices.
“Within the two months under review, Delta State Police Command has continued to deliver on its mandate of prevention of crime by reducing crime wave to the barest minimum through the robust crime preventive and fighting measures put in place.”
She explained that three of the suspected kidnappers/armed robbers were fatally wounded during a cross-fire with the police in attempt to rescue kidnapped victims, adding that seven of the kidnap victims were successfully rescued unhurt.
Weapons recovered from the hoodlums during the period under review include six English made rifles, 31 locally made guns, 53 ammunitions and 12 stolen vehicles.
DSP Kalu who disclosed that thirty of the suspects have been charged to court, added, “We shall continue to improve on these measures and make the entire state unconducive for criminal elements to operate.”
