New Lagos Police Boss Gives Okada Riders Ultimatum

Aderanti, Lagos police boss

The new Lagos State Police Commissioner, Kayode Aderanti has issued a 14-day ultimatum to commercial motorcycle operators, also known as okada riders, to stop plying roads they were restricted from operating on or risk incurring the wrath of the law.

Aderanti in a statement issued on Wednesday by the State Police Command Spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, warned that those who flout the 2012 State Traffic Law by plying restricted routes would be arrested and prosecuted after the expiration of the ultimatum.

Braide, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP, said: “The Lagos State Police Command has observed with total dismay that some okada riders do not have any iota of respect for the laws of the state as they have continuously and flagrantly breach this traffic law.

“The Commissioner hereby warns and reminds all okada riders in the state that the ban and restriction from plying certain routes is still in force. Anyone caught flouting it will have himself to blame because the command is ready to take severe action against anyone violating this law.”
