Students of Olabisi Onabanjo University, OOU, Ago-Iwoye today resumed after the Governing Council of the institution directed that the school be reopened.
It would be recalled that the state government had on 18 August 2014 ordered the closure of the institution following protest embarked on by the students of the school after the government announced the reduction of all the tertiary institutions fees in the State.
Findings by our correspondent today shows that the students are in high spirit as they stormed the school today in anticipation of what may come after.
Some of the students who spoke with our correspondent revealed that they are grateful to the state government for reopening their institution.
“We are happy to be back on campus, it is not easy. We have already lagged behind before the closure, now we have lost almost four weeks again. You need to understand the kind of pressure that will now be on us, but, we just have to be grateful to the government for its consideration over us. We are set for work now as lectures have already commenced today. We have received three lectures today and we are still going to have one or two more,” a student said.
Speaking with our correspondent, the Students Union Government, SUG President, Comrade Olusegun Ifade, a.k.a. Socialist confirmed that lectures have since commenced.
The Students Union leader stated that they have reached some agreement with the state government which made the issue to be resolved amicably.
Ifade thanked the government and all the stakeholders who had played one or another role in ensuring that the school reopened.
“Yes, we are back in school and everybody is happy to be back on the campus. Lectures have commenced and work has began. On our matter with the government, the government has agreed that the payment of the new fees will be by next academic session while the fees for this session has to be paid in two installment”, Ifade explained.
