Husband seeks divorce over wife’s bad friends

The gavel of justice

court of law

A 42-year old man, Lawal Idris, on Tuesday told an Ilorin Area Court that his wife, Mulikat, was in the habit of keeping bad friends and urged the court to dissolve the marriage.

Idris, who is a resident of Niger Area, Ilorin, told the court that his wife was associating with people that could influence her life negatively and had no respect for their husbands at home.

“I have cautioned my wife to quit associating with bad set of people, but she refuse to listen to me and I can sense that she is no longer the woman I use to know,” he said.

He also told the court that the bad companies his wife kept had indoctrinated her into their ways of not respecting their husband.

Idris said that the marriage was contracted in 2010 and had produced one male child, Suleman. “My Lord, I want an end to this marriage because my wife’s lifestyle has changed negatively, since she prefers to listen to her friends, instead of her husband,” said the petitioner.

Mulikat opposed the petition, saying she was still interested in the marriage. “I will quit associating with the women my husband did not approve of for the sake of my marriage and only child,” Mulikat said.

Mulikat applied for an adjournment to enable her to reconcile with her husband.

The presiding Judge, Mr Yusuf Abdulkareem, adjourned the case to 15 October, for report of settlement or continuation of hearing.
