2015: INEC issues notice of election in Kano

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kano state on Wednesday issued a notice of the 2015 general elections in parts of the state.
The notice was pasted at INEC offices in compliance with section 30 of Electoral Act, 2010 as amended, which provided not later than 90 days before the election.
The notice is also in line with the INEC schedule of activities for the general elections nationwide.
The INEC Assistant Director, Public Affairs in Kano, Alhaji Garba Mohammed, told NAN that the commission had pasted the notice in each of the three senatorial districts.
“We have also pasted the election notice in all the 24 federal constituencies and 40 state assembly constituencies in the state as directed by our headquarters.
“This singular action has also put to rest the insinuations, reservations or doubt being entertained in some quarters on the possibility of conducting the election,” he said.
According to him, the purpose of putting the election notice is to announce the dates of the general election as already contained in the election timetable and schedule.
Mohammed said it was also intended to remind members of the public about the dates or the timetable of the election.
He said the electoral act also directed INEC to put the election notice not later than 90 days of the election.
A cross section of people who spoke to NAN on the notices of the election expressed hope that the polls would be hitch-free.
They also urged INEC to keep its words by ensuring that the process was free, fair and acceptable to all Nigerians, to ensure the sustenance of democracy in the country.
