The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Sokoto State has called on politicians to abide by the rules and regulations of the electoral process to achieve hitch-free elections in 2015.

The appeal is contained in a statement signed by Muhammad Musa, Head of Voter Education and Publicity, on Thursday in Sokoto.

It further noted that free and fair election was a collective responsibility of all Nigerians.

“As such, each and every stakeholder must contribute his or her own quota in order to achieve the desired objective,” the statement said

It announced the release of the time-table for the 2015 general elections since on 1 October.

The statement said that the action was in accordance with the provisions of section 30, sub-sections 1 and 2 of the Electoral Act 2015 ( as amended).

“The notice of the 2015 general elections has been released and pasted at the state headquarters of the commission in Sokoto.

“Same had also been done at the headquarters of each of the 23 local governments of the state,” the statement, added.

It stated that the presidential and national assembly elections would be conducted on 14 February 2015.

In the same vein, the gubernatorial and state assembly elections are slated for 28 February 2015.

“And take note that the place of delivery of nomination papers for the elective officers shall be the commission’s headquarters, Maitama, Abuja”.
