Anti-corruption crusader, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, has chided politicians in the country for practicing politics without defined ideologies.

Tsav, who is also Benue Amirul Hajj, told NAN in a telephone interview from Saudi Arabia that the recent defections by politicians were symbolic of a system that lacked ideological posturing.

“There has been horse-trading by our politicians in recent times. These politicians do not care about the wellbeing of the citizens and the development of the nation, what they care for is their financial wellbeing.

“A country such as Nigeria does not need politicians who are moving from one political party to another. What it needs is a strong political opposition that will serve as an alternative government, always putting the government on its toes.

“Any country operating a one party system does not promote rapid development of its economy and its other sectors.”

Tsav, a former commissioner of Police in Lagos, said Nigeria needed a well organised opposition political structure that was rooted in a strong ideological foundation.

He said such opposition could check the excesses of the ruling party to ensure the provision of social services.

He blamed the current insurgency in some parts of the country on the absence of a formidable opposition party in the country.

According to him, a well organised opposition party could have mounted concerted pressure on the government to end the insecurity in the North East part of the country.
