Boko Haram: Mark to address the world at 131st parliamentary

The Senate President, Senator David Mark, will on 11 October, lead Nigerian parliamentarians to the 131st Inter- Parliamentary Union (IPU) holding in Geneva, Switzerland.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Senate President, Mr Paul Mumeh.

According to the statement, the senate president will on 13 October, address the Assembly on the issue of terrorism in Nigeria.

He would also address efforts so far made by the country as well as the support given by the international community in tackling the menace.

The senate president is also expected to lead Nigerian debate on achieving gender equality and measures toward ending violence against women.

Another issue slated for debate at the global conference includes international law as it relates to national sovereignty.

Other issues for debate include non-intervention in the internal affairs of states and human rights as well as the election of the president and vice president of IPU.

Mark will be accompanied by the Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha, Senators Helen Esuene, Abdulazeez Usman, Edobor Uzamere and Hassan Barata Hassan.

House of Representatives’ Mohammed Sani, Daniel Reneiju, Bello Binta Fatima and Ibrahim Dorguwa are also on the delegation.

They are expected back in Nigeria on 17 October.

The statement further stated that the tenure of the incumbent President of IPU, Mr Abdelwahab Radi of Morocco ends this October.

Radi was elected for a three year mandate on Oct. 19, 2011 at the 189th session of the governing council in Bern, Canada.
