After Super Eagles failed to beat Sudan in the Africa Nations Cup qualifying match last Saturday in Khartoum, ex-international, Christian Chukwu says he has lost hope in the ability of the senior national team to qualify for next year’s Africa Nations Cup in Morocco.

Nigeria’s quest to defend the AFCON title won last year suffered a serious setback on Saturday after Sudan shocked Eagles 1-0 in Khartoum.

This defeat put Nigeria in the last position with one point on the group table, while Sudan who lost their two matches maintain third position.

Congo who suffered 3-0 home defeat to South Africa over the weekend are now in second position with six points, while South Africa take the leadership of the group with seven points.

Chukwu said for Eagles to qualify for the next year’s Nations Cup, the African champions must win their remaining three matches with a wide margin and pray for Congo to stumble in one of their matches which may not be possible.

“I don’t think we can win our remaining matches judging by the performance of the Eagles in their last three matches. I have lost hope and it will be a disaster if the team fail to defend their title in Morocco,” he said.
