Man Sells Friend Car To Pay His Debt

A 34-year old man, Johnson Jamiu has been arrested by the police and charged before Lagos court sitting in Ejigbo for allegedly selling his friend’s car to pay his debt in Lagos state, Western Nigeria.

An indebted Jamiu allegedly sold a Daewoo Saloon car to Nnaji Goodluck for N180,000 belonging after his debtor was on his neck.

The value of the car in question accirding to police source is N1.2m. The incident happened at Isheri-LASU road in Idimu area of Lagos.

P.M. NEWS learnt that Jamiu who had access to the car, collected the car key and and sold it before coming back to inform the owner.

Our reporter gathered that Jamiu was indebted to some people who had been disturbing him on daily basis. When the stress became to much he decided clear the debt by selling the car without informing the owner, Goodluck.

He later informed Goodluck that he had sold his only car and confessed to him that he had to sell the car to pay his debts so that he would be free.

He explained that he did not tell him because he knew he would not agree neither will he lend him money to pay the debt.

The matter was reported at Idimu police division and Jamiu was arrested and taken to the station.

He admitted before the police that he sold the car. The police charged him to court with Criminal conversion and stealing under the Criminal Code.

When he was arraigned, he pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Magistrate, Mr P. E. Nwaka granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He was remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri pending when he will perfect his bail condition.

The matter was adjourned till 12 November 2014.

When he was being taken to prison, he pleaded with the complainant, Goodluck to facilitate his release from custody.
