There are strong indications that the current council chairmen in the 20 Local Government Councils and 37 Local Council Development Areas in Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, will hand over to caretaker committees on 29 October, 2014.
This was confirmed to P.M.NEWS by a highly placed source within the state chapter of the party.
The source who does not want his name mentioned, described the matter as a very sensitive issue.
However, All Progressives Congress, APC, Vice Chairman, Lagos West Senatorial Distric, Chief Funsho Ologunde, said the issue of handing over to caretaker committees can be regarded as a mere rumour as no official statement has been issued on it.
“I don’t have much information on that yet. The only person that can speak authoritatively on it is the governor and he is yet to make any official statement on that. The Commissioner for Information who is the voice of government hasn’t said anything on it too.
“Therefore, the issue of the council chairmen handing over to caretaker committees is a mere rumour. I will want you to regard it as such and wishful thinking of some people,” said Chief Ologunde.
It was learnt that the caretaker committees will take over the affairs of the council’s at the expiration of the tenure of the current chairmen.
The serving chairmen were sworn in by Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola at the Blueroof Hall, LTV 8 Complex, Agidingbi, Ikeja on 29 October, 2011.
It was gathered that the caretaker committees will include the Chairman, Vice Chairman and the Council Leader.
