Use knowledge wisely, Aregbesola advises graduating students

Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun has advised the graduating students of Oduduwa University in Ipetumodu, Osun, to make good use of the knowledge gained in the institution.
Aregbesola, who was represented by his deputy, Otunba Titilayo Laoye-Tomorri, gave the advice at the 2nd Convocation of the university on Friday.
He implored them to have faith in God as well as in themselves so that the resources expended on their training would not be wasted.
“The university has provided training to transform your lives and for you to be useful to yourselves, parents, local government, state and your country at large.
“Therefore, it is your duty to use the knowledge well to uplift the name of the university,” he said.
Oba Okunade Sijuwade, the Ooni of Ife, who is also the Chancellor of the University, commended the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council, Dr Raman Adedoyin, for his “creative ingenuity”.
He said the graduation ceremony was the transformation of a dream and a vision to reality.
The royal father advised all stakeholders to support the school management to ensure sustenance of academic activities and progress of the institution.
Also speaking, Adedoyin acknowledged the support and solidarity shown by all stakeholders to the institution, and lauded them for finding time to attend the occasion.
Adedoyin said God gave him the grace to invest his resources in the tertiary education for the advancement of the society.
He said the university was assisting brilliant indigenes of Origbo-Meje community in Ife North Local Government Area and three other councils in the state.
According to him, the university emphasised entrepreneurship study as a way of ensuring that its graduates do not become job seekers, but job creators.
He said the school has a well-developed centre for entrepreneurship and vocational studies for students in 200 level to learn any trade of their choice.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof Olajumoke Olayiwola, advised the graduating students against being idle during and after their youth service.
Olayiwola said they should find something to do to earn a living while waiting to be employed.
She also urged them to make use of the knowledge gained in the university to achieve greater things in life.
The vice-chancellor called on Prof. Ibrahim Shekarau, the Minister of Education, to include private universities in the list of universities that enjoy TETFUND.
Olayiwola stressed that by doing so, the school fees of private universities would be reduced and parents would be glad.
NAN reports that the university awarded honourary doctorate degree in administration to Dr AbdulRaheem Oladimeji, the Jagunmolu of Igbomina land in Kwara.
Mr Jonah Ogunniyi, the Accountant General of the Federation, was awarded honourary doctorate degree in accounting.
The university graduated 196 students of which 10 bagged First Class and 94 got Second Class Upper.
A total of 88 students had Second Class Lower and four got Third Class.
The university got approval in November 2009 and started operation in January 2010.
