Nigeria’s president, Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday announced a minor cabinet reshuffle to fill the vacancies created by the resignation of seven ministers from his government last week.

Dr. Nurudeen Mohammed, the Minister of State II, for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Nurudeen Mohammed who has also been asked to take over as the Supervising Minister of Information told State House correspondents at the end of Wednesday meeting of Federal Executive Council ministers appointed to supervise other ministries are to act in the capacity pending when substantive ministers would be named.

Dr. Nurudeen replaces Labaran Maku, the former minister of information.

In the same vein, Minister of State I, Foreign Affairs, Prof. Viola Onwuliri, now substantive Minister of State; Education following Nyesom Wike’s resignation.

Minister of Defence, Alhaji Aliyu Guasu, would combine his duties with those of the Minister of State, Defence following the resignation of Senator Musiliu Obanikoro.

Also, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Dr. Stephen Oru, will combine his responsibilities with those of the Minister of State, Defence vacated by Dr. Darius Ishaku; the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Olusegun Aganga, will combine his duties with those of the Minister of State vacated by Samuel Ortom.

Seven ministers resigned for the Federal Executive Council last week to contest the 2015 general election in their states.
