Against the backdrop of claims by Governor Rotimi Amaechi that the Federal Government has done nothing for Rivers people, the immediate past Minister of state for Education, leader of the People’s Democratic Party PDP, Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that the federal government has so far committed about N7b for development of education in the state.

Wike, who was at the party secretariat to inform members of his intension to seek election for governorship position said that the federal government under President Goodluck Jonathan released N2.3b for the establishment of faculties of law and social sciences and their hostels; issued a grant of N1b for the upgrading of Rivers state University of Education and Polytechnic.

He also stated the federal government also released large sums of money for renovation of model primary and secondary schools in the state including Saint Aquinas Secondary school, Elele Community Secondary School Ubima among others.

According to Wike, Rivers state was the first to have a Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas in the country, adding that, the governor should stop lying against the Federal Government on issues that were obvious to the people.

Wike also denied the allegation by the governor, that he got a contract worth N4bn but did not execute. He claimed that nothing of such ever existed. “If he gave me a contract, and I did not execute it, why did he wait till now? There is no truth in the claim, and I challenge him to any arena to come and substantiate his claims with facts and figures”.

He mocked Governor Amaechi for alleging that Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has refused to do its job.

He expressed regrets at the efforts of the party to make Amaechi governor, noting that, he took their mandate to the All Progressives Congress (APC), and has been ceaselessly spending the states’ fund on the opposition without recourse to the yearnings of the people.
