A company truck driver, Wasiu Bello, has been remanded in Kirikiri Prisons in Lagos State, western Nigeria, for allegedly diverting goods worth N14 million for his personal use.

Bello was arrested and charged with conspiracy and stealing before a Lagos court sitting in Ejigbo, Lagos.
It was reported that Bello was entrusted with 1,200 bags of BUA sugar, which he was instructed to deliver to his employer’s customer, Aliamen Abubakar.

Instead, the 27-year old driver reportedly diverted the goods and sold them before he abandoned the truck and fled.

When Abubakar waited for the goods to no avail, he informed the company, who reported the matter to the police.
After investigation, the police arrested Bello while two other accomplices escaped.

When he was arraigned, the suspect pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs M.B. Folami, granted him bail in the sum of N5 million with two sureties in like sum.

Bello was remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri, Lagos pending when he will perfect his bail conditions. The matter was adjourned till 10 November 2014.
