The police in Benin have arraigned four members of staff of the Federal Psychiatrist Hospital, Uselu, in Benin, including a medical doctor, before an Egor Magistrate’s Court, to face trial over allegations bordering on alleged official corruption and conspiracy to tarnish the reputation and profession of one Taiwo Ifueko Agho, a staff of the hospital.

The accused persons, Dr. Charles Onyenibedi Ikeji, 58; Morgan Osadebamwen, 56;‎ Akerele Onero, 42 and Pharmacist Orhiakhi Kennedy, 44, were accused to have on about 25 August 2014, at Uselu, with others now at large, conspired among themselves to commit felony to wit-official corruption and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 516 of the Criminal code, cap. 48 Vol. II, Laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria 1976 as applicable in Edo state.

Besides allegedly conspiring to injure the reputation and profession of one Taiwo Ifueko Agho they committed an offence under section 512(2)(4) of the criminal code. The accused persons were alleged to have attempted to commit felony by trying to steal the official file of the said Taiwo Ifueko Agho and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 509 of the criminal code.

According to Prosecution, the 3rd accused in the case, Akerele Onero, was alleged to have on August 28, 2014, corruptly induced one Sunday Adache with the sum of N2,000 in other ‎to remove the official file of Ifueko Agho and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 98A(1)(b) of the criminal code.

The accused persons who pleaded not guilty to the charges when read to them in the court, were granted bail in the sum of N200,000 each and one surety in like.

The trial Magistrate, Igho Braimoh (Mrs), who directed that the surety must be resident in Egor, adjourned the case to 4 December 2014.
