Administrator Lauds Glo Over Education Initiative

Experienced school administrator, students and other categories of education stakeholders have lauded the educational application launched by Globacom, named Glo Mobile Tutor.

The application launched about a month ago by the national telecom operator is an innovation with full Junior and Secondary school curricula specially designed to provide instant knowledge and prepare students for examinations.

In random interviews with subjects in Lagos recently, Mrs Titilayo Ajayi, Principal, May Day College in Surulere, Lagos said, “Glo Mobile Tutor is the best telecoms innovation I’ve seen. Our teachers even use the app to prepare their lesson notes. With the Mobile Tutor, students can even prepare for exams without enrolling at school. Now indigent students can study on their own and write exams even when they don’t have money to pay school fees.” She advised parents to ensure their children and wards subscribe to the service.

A maths teacher at Greenwich Comprehensive College, Mr. Godson, opined that Glo Mobile Tutor has made his job a lot more easier. He said that pupils now learn on their own and only come to class to revise what they have learnt.

A cross-section of students spoken to by our reporters in Lagos recently testified to the efficacy of the application. Some of the students were excited to have Glo Mobile Tutor on their mobile phones.

Teniola Ariyo, a Senior Secondary pupil at May Day College, Surulere, Lagos said “When I get home from school, I take time to study with Glo Mobile Tutor, especially when I don’t understand what was taught in school. A pupil in Rainbow College, Chidinma Ikedi, said “After the Glo Mobile Tutor was launched, my colleagues and I got the app installed on our phones and formed a study group. We use the revision videos on Glo Mobile Tutor to revise our daily class work. We also use the structured assignments to prepare ahead for next day’s class work. Glo Mobile Tutor is the best.”

The application, which is loaded with both West African and British Curricula, has been endorsed by the relevant educational bodies such as Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB), the National Educational Research Development Council (NERDC) and Federal Ministry of Communication Technology.

A statement from Globacom headquarters at the launch of the service underscored the company’s commitment to the development and education of the Nigerian child. The Glo Mobile Tutor is part of the nationwide campaign aimed at improving educational standards in Nigeria because of its belief that good education makes a great nation.  The statement said that for subscribers to enjoy the service, they are required to text EDUW to 4244 at N75 weekly, or EDUM to 4244 at N150 monthly the statement concluded.
