There is chaos at the National Assembly after policemen and Department of State Security operatives stopped the speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal, from gaining access to the premises.
The operatives then fired tear-gas, forcing Tambuwal to be taken into the complex by angry lawmakers protesting the action of the security personnel.
The speaker trekked from the gates to the main complex, a distance of over 500 metres.
The House was reconvened today to discuss President Goodluck Jonathan’s request to extend emergency rule in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states following fierce Boko Haram attacks in the northeast.
Thursday’s plenary would be the first since Tambuwal’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the main opposition party, All Progressives Congress.
