No mercenaries at NIPOGA 2014, says Official

The Director Technical, Nigeria Polytechnic Games (NIPOGA), Alhaji Dangana Nma, said no mercenaries have been detected so far, since the commencement of the games on 6 December.

Dangana said in an interview with NAN in Bida, Niger State that the thorough screening of the athletes had ensured that those that participated were genuine.

According to him, the absence of mercenaries have made the 2014 games peaceful and fruitful.

“We had a hitch free NIPOGA that is devoid of crises and rancour largely because there were no mercenaries.

“If we were desperate that we must win at all cost, certainly crises would have rocked here and that would be unwholesome for us and our visitors,” he said.

Dagana stated that after the games the institution would appraise its sports facilities and articulate ways to maintain them.

He commended the performance of athletes fielded by the polytechnic, assuring that they would be duly rewarded.

The director said the task before the school was to raise new athletes that would participate in the West African Polytechnic Games (WAPOGA) slated for Ghana in 2015.

He said most of the present crop of athletes from the institution would graduate before the games.

Dangana said the polytechnic would use the zonal games introduced by NIPOGA to test the athletes it would parade in Ghana.

The director appealed to individuals and organisation to redeem their pledges to enable the polytechnic raise enough money to complete its multi purpose indoor sports hall.
