Former assistant national team coach, Ben Duamlong, has predicted a bleak future for the Super Eagles following their inability to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, taking place in Equatorial Guinea next month.

He said that the Eagles will struggle to impress after the recent bouts of managerial crisis that left the team without a Chief Coach when Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, is reluctant to renew his contract. Former assistant national team, Duamlong noted that though he remains hopeful Nigeria will bounce back, he fears the rancour in the team will hinder their progress.

Speaking with footballlive.ng, Duamlong believes a return to form will however be a welcome respite. “Victory is a bastard and everybody wants to be associated with it. It will go a long way in dousing the rancour. Things may get better with Daniel Amokachi, who had worked with Keshi for a while in charge now and so we should expect, perhaps a decent performance.

“Football is a sport that comes with its challenges and you can’t expect instant revival from the team after the crisis, it was a major setback,” Duamlong said.
