Ijoko Crises: Police Arrest Palace Guards
Following the latest crises in Ijoko Ota area of Ado Odo Ota, Ogun State, southwest Nigeria, the police have arrested guards at the palace of Oba Alani Matanmi, Onijoko of Ijoko.
P.M.NEWS gathered that the latest clash which led to the burning of houses and destruction of vehicles started when Kayode Bambi organised a prayer session for the remembrance of his late mother Munirat nee Matanmi and hoodlums allegedly attacked them during the prayer session.
According to Barrister A.O. Fatoki, lawyer to Oba Matanmi, over the years Oba Matanmi has written over 30 letters to the police requesting for protection of the palace without any response.
He said this led to the hiring of vigilante group to guard the palace and wondered why the police should arrest the palace guards and seize the arms they use in protecting the palace.
“My client Oba Alani Matanmi has 77 court judgements including the obaship stool of Ijoko,” he said.
Barrister Fatoki has since written a petition to the Ogun State Commissioner of Police in which he complained about the attitude of his men in handling the Ijoko crises.
He has vowed to follow the case to a logical end, adding that the police will be held responsible for any further attack on Oba Fatai Alani Matanmi’s palace.
