Nigeria’s Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Delta State is gradually being weakened by a wave of desertions by party members who were aggrieved by the primaries conducted for state assembly, National Assembly and the governorship position.

Many disgruntled members of the party are said to be running to join the Labour Party, whose governorship candidate is Chief Great Ogboru, who had thrice contested the position.

Politicong.com said said those gravitating towards Labour are supporters of Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan who failed to get his nominee for the governorship ticket and some of other gubernatorial aspirants.

“One of the former PDP gubernatorial aspirants, Chief Ovie Omo-Agege it is alleged, may have been enlisted as the candidate of Labour Party for the Delta Central Senate ticket bringing a synergy to Labour that could hurt the ruling party,” Politicong said.

“Engr. Victor Ochei who also lost out in the governorship primaries has picked the ticket of Accord as the party’s Senate candidate for Delta North

“Though Governor Uduaghan has openly pledged his support to the PDP governorship candidate, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, there is indeed apprehension in Okowa’s camp that the governor who was believed to have opposed the candidate during the primaries could still find a way to sabotage him.

“Uduaghan’s supporters are also becoming apprehensive with the news that some of the governor’s nominees who won the House of Assembly primaries are being replaced in Abuja by Chief Government Ekpemupolo, aka Tompolo.”
