Prima Strata, the oldest organisation in the Faculty of Law, at the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, Osun state, is set to hold the 20th edition of its National Law Students Debate, P.M.NEWS Campus Square can authoritatively report.

The organisation, founded on 14 May, 1983, will hold the competition at OAU’s 5,000-seater Amphitheatre on Thursday, 29 January, 2015.

Some of the schools expected to participate in the one-day event include Lagos State University, LASU; University of Lagos, UNILAG; University of Ilorin, UNILORIN; University of Benin, UNIBEN; Babcock University, among others.

Bimbo Amusan, one of the organisers of the annual competition, told our correspondent that the primary goal of the debate is to create an atmosphere where law students from all over the country can engage their minds on topical issues while getting some time to interact with one another as well.

“Today, the debate is the most recognised and most anticipated event among law students all over the country,” he said.

“In its 19 years of existence, it has acquired a reputation among its admirers and past participants as a very competitive yet thrilling experience with such words as ‘pulsating, captivating and breathtaking’ frequently used to describe this one day spectacle,” he added.

Discussing the topic, “Insecurity in Nigeria, an Exposure of the Youth Neglect”, the annual debate has been dubbed one of the most attended events on the OAU campus, attracting an audience comprising students from all faculties and departments of the university as well as lecturers in search of enlightenment.

P.M. News Campus Square gathered that in past years, this debate was held in honour of eminent personalities including Justice Bola Babalakin (Retired Justice of the Supreme Court), Justice Babatunde Adejumo OFR (President National Industrial Court), among many others.

Amusan explained further that “this year’s edition of the National Law Students Debate is especially unique as it marks the 20th edition and the 31st Anniversary of the great organisation, PRIMA STRATA, Obafemi Awolowo University.”

Prima Strata is a 30-member club of exceptional people admitted after a rigorous recruitment process on the strength of their intellectual prowess, moral fibre and character.
